I left Southern Germany 2 weeks ago. Cycled all the time for 14 days (sure, at night I stayed at campgrounds). The weather was decent warm, compared what we had the last 3 months in middle Europe. The first 2 days were already too warm for cycling. The sun shined all day long. I remember day #3: It was actually a day with a mix of clouds and sun. The evening and night at the campground was horrible. Incredible sticky. The night temperature was definitely not below 20 degrees. Hey, it’s already September and the nights are as warm as in midsummer.
The first few days the car traffic was low. Most of the time my route followed the channels. They are only allowed for pedestrians and cyclists. Nice moving. But the department roads in France are getting more and more busy. Lots of cars and yes, trucks. Not very pleasant. Not to misunderstand me, lots of the roads are fine for cycling, but there are long stretches with (IMHO)) heavy traffic.
Getting on the other side of the Pyrenees was hard work, at least for my legs. Lots of uphills and downhills. One tiny, tiny pass (just something over 500 m) was crazy steep. Long stretches aver 16%. That’s crazy with a full loaded 40 kg bicycle.
Till now I can’t complain about the traffic if Spain. It’s OK. Lots of pilgrims heading to Santiago de Compostela. Because my clothing needs a laundry I decided to stay at the campground in Logroño. The campground has a (one) washer and a (one) dryer and mostly occupied by the cleaning staff for the bedding because the campground has several bungalows/chalets. The price was 8€ for washing and drying. Simply insane.
Below is my cycled route for the last 2 weeks:
And (all) the pictures taken. Sorry, I will sort them out when I’m back in Germany.
Oh, yes. Spain is definitely regarding internet speed not South Korea or Taiwan. Uploading the pictures will take aaaages. I’m very sorry for the inconvenience. Maybe I have more luck in one of the next campgrounds. It’s simply a matter of uploading. Most of the work has been done today.
