May is already over five days old and I’m still in southwestern Germany waiting for better weather to start my journey/ride to the Pico del Veleta in southern Spain. They forecasted good weather for tomorrow. So let’s believe them.
Above map shows proposed ride for the next 4 days. A beautiful ride along the Doubs river with lots of nice scenery. Mostly on car-free streets.
Urgent Update
I left Durbach Saturday (May, 07, 2022) after 1 pm. Had to pack lot of stuff for my long journey. Weight of the bicycle at least 40 KG. After about 8 kilometers in Offenburg I realized to my sorrow that the left pedal is malfunctioning. So back again to Durbach and replacing it. Fortunately I got a decently huge arsenal of spare bike parts. So replaced the broken pedal. Arrived pretty late at the campground. Already 30 min after sunset, couple kilometers after Mulhouse, France.
The next few days were very pleasant. Wright temperature for cycling. But man, It’s mid May and I am heading south with my well loaden bicycle to the heat. In Spain it’s definitely not getting cooler the next 2-3 months. The wright decision was to rethink the plan (heading south) and turn back and go to Bremen in Germany, but a little longer route through Belgium and The Netherlands. Have never been there before. Below is my itinerary:
